When does YouTube start paying you?

YouTube starts paying you the month after your balance first reaches the payment threshold — and only once you are in the Partner Program, have verified who you are, submitted tax information and chosen how to be paid. Each of those is a separate gate with its own threshold, and skipping one holds the money.

Gate 0: the Partner Program

Nothing accrues before you are accepted into the YouTube Partner Program. The published requirement is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. Views before acceptance are not paid retroactively.

Gates 1–4: the revenue thresholds

Google lists them in order. The amounts depend on the currency of your AdSense for YouTube account; the actions are the same everywhere.

1. Tax info threshold — every YPP creator, in every country, must submit tax information. Without it Google may withhold up to 24% of worldwide earnings.
2. Verification threshold — once earnings reach it you verify your identity, then your address: Google mails a PIN by post, which can take 3–4 weeks to arrive, and you enter it in AdSense for YouTube.
3. Payment method selection threshold — a smaller amount than the payment threshold; when your balance reaches it you can choose bank transfer or the other forms available for your address.
4. Payment threshold — when outstanding earnings reach it, with no holds and no policy problems, you are paid. Google’s own worked example uses $100 for a creator in the United States; the full table by currency is on the thresholds page linked below.

The calendar

• Earnings accrue during the month as estimates.
• Between the 7th and 12th of the next month, the finalized YouTube earnings for the previous month are added to your balance.
• On the 20th, your balance must be at or above the payment threshold, and any change to payment details or holds must already be done — changes after the 20th wait a month.
• Between the 21st and 26th the payment is issued; a "Payment pending" line appears on your Payments page. Bank transfers can take up to seven business days after that; mailed cheques up to four weeks.

Put together: money earned in June is finalized by early July and, if the balance clears the threshold on 20 July, is issued between 21 and 26 July. If it does not clear, it rolls into August and the check repeats. That one-month lag is why a first payment feels late — it is not late, it is the schedule.

Separate AdSense and AdSense for YouTube accounts are paid separately: each has to reach the payment threshold on its own. If you also run ads on a website, the two balances do not add up.
