How to make your X (Twitter) account public

On X, "public" is not a setting you turn on — it is the default. Every new account’s posts are visible to anyone, with or without an X account. What makes an account private is the "Protect your posts" option in your account settings. Making an account public means turning that option off.
Where the switch is
X’s help page says protection is enabled and disabled "through your account settings"; on the current app it sits in the privacy section of Settings. Turn "Protect your posts" off and your account is public again. There is no separate "make public" control.
What changes when you un-protect
- Every previously protected post becomes public — X states this plainly: unprotecting "will cause any previously protected posts to be made public". If some of them were written for followers only, delete those first.
- Anyone can follow you without a request. Pending follow requests from your protected period are no longer gated.
- Your posts can be reposted and quoted again, appear in X search for everyone, and can be indexed by outside search engines.
- Replies you send reach the accounts you reply to even if they do not follow you.
What protected actually meant
While protected: only your followers can see your posts, including permanent links; new followers must be approved; followers cannot repost you; your posts do not appear in outside search engines and are searchable on X only by you and your followers. Two caveats X itself lists: followers can still screenshot and share, and media links are not protected — anyone with the link can open the media. A third-party app you authorised may also see protected posts.
Going public is the right default for a creator account: the whole point of a scheduler is reach, and a protected account cannot be reposted. Keep a separate protected account for the posts you want gated.
